What is Functional Nutrition and is it Right For Me?

Functional nutrition is often called "root cause" nutrition because it seeks to understand the root cause of what is preventing us from feeling like the best version of ourselves. It is an integrative way of achieving wellness that uses a multi-faceted approach to evaluating nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental factors.

My 3-Prong Approach

Every clients needs are different, and I will conduct an extensive intake to understand the best way to approach your wellness goals.

Nutrition Counseling

Depending on your needs and goals, we will review your current diet and make modifications as necessary.

I am very familiar with dietary trends ranging from anti-inflammatory diets to gut-healing diets such as Low FODMAP.

I also have a wide variety of dietary tools including food substitutions, meal planning software, and recipe guides that I will provide to my clients.

In addition, I provide accountability to clients in meeting their nutrition goals.

Lifestyle Modifications

Since wellness does not happen in a bubble, long-term success will depend on looking integratively at lifestyle. Working together, we will look at lifestyle factors that include stress, sleep hygiene, and environment and come up with the best way to maximize each area of your lifestyle.

These changes don’t have to be monumental. With most clients small tweaks in different areas can make a huge difference to their health.

As a current teacher, I provide clients with that knowledge so they can implement simple strategies both during our work together and after.

 Functional Lab Testing

Functional lab tests look at the foundational systems that are at the heart of most illness, including the gut, adrenal, immune, detoxification and hormone systems in our body.

Clients often come to me frustrated that their doctors have told them that their lab work is "normal" or after a series of rounds of conventional medication that keeps landing them in the same spot or worse than before.

I use a wide variety of functional lab tests to better understand how to help my clients get to the root cause of their illness.

Together we will:

Connect the dots between who you are and who you want to be

Create your individualized protocol

Decipher your body’s unique needs

Set your personal goals and work towards sustainable change

Functional Lab Tests that I Use Include:

Diagnostic Solutions - GI Map

The GI-MAP™ (GI-Microbial Assay Plus) test is the first comprehensive stool analysis to include an FDA-approved DNA/PCR assay for GI pathogens. GI-MAP™ is the gold standard in gut testing because it get to the root cause of gut issues by evaluating:

GI Pathogens, Bacteria, Parasites, Inflammation, Immune function, and Digestive/Pancreatic function.

MRT Food Sensitivity Test

The Oxford Biomedical Technologies MRT LEAP 170 screens for hidden inflammatory responses to 170 different foods and food-chemicals.

Dutch Test

The DUTCH gives insight into energy and stress levels by looking at adrenal health markers (cortistol/DHEA) and hormonal imbalances that could result in: perimenopause, fatigue, low libido, PMS, mood swings, weight gain and depression.

SpectraCell Micronutrient Panel

SpectraCell’s Micronutrient test provides the most comprehensive nutritional analysis available by measuring functional deficiencies at the cellular level. It is an assessment of how well the body utilizes 31 vitamins, minerals, amino/fatty acids, antioxidants, and metabolites, while conveying the body’s need for these micronutrients that enable the body to produce enzymes, hormones, and other substances essential for proper growth, development, and good health.
